2000 toyota camry mysterious warning light on dash

Jan 22, 2008 3 Replies

Our car didn't come with the manual, and I've searched around without any luck.

Recently a warning light has come on in the lower left hand side of the dash area. it's red in the shape of the car from above, and there are little lines coming out the back where the rear lights would be. i checked and all the lights back there are fine, the brakelight is fine, etc. does anybody know what this means, or is it an electrical problem with the warning light itself?

Did you check the high mount stop light in the rear window? Scott

That icon is the warning indicator that one of the rear lights is not working. As zonie suggested, check the center high mounted stop lamp, turn signals, backup lights, and license plate lights. In almost every case, the owner has missed one of the burned out bulbs. If all of the bulbs are actually good, check the ground wires for all of the lights and for the warning sensor.
