2006 Sienna Electric Seat

I recently purchased a 2006 Toyota Sienna XL. Upon owning it for a couple weeks, my wife has announced that she wishes we would have bought the option package that includes the 4-way power adjustable seat for the passenger. She feels like the manual seat doesn't provide her with enough support in the leg area and would like to raise the front up a little.

Is it possible to replace a manual front seat with a 4-way power seat? If so, does anyone have any idea where to go about purchasing one? I spoke to the dealer and they believe it this can only be done at the factory.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, although it is going to be very expensive.

If

The only place to purchase new original factory parts is at the dealership.

I spoke to

Power seats are only offered as a factory option. The wiring harness should be in the car already so all you have to purchase is the seat. Keep in mind that the seat is probably not available as an assembly so plan on spending somewhere around $3,000 to purchase the separate parts from the dealership parts department and then having someone put them together. Also keep in mind that because of differences in trim, the seat covers may not match.

Your other options are: Trade the vehicle for one with the package you want (very expensive); Look for a power seat assembly at a junk yard (probably very time consuming) Look for aftermarket seats from someone like Recaro. Purchase one of those wedge-shaped cushions for additional support at the front of the seat (least comfortable and poor appearance).

I just thought of another option - bring the car to a custom upholstery shop and get an estimate to modify the seat cushion by adding additional padding - this may be the least expensive option.

(Disclaimer: Don't know that particular car, answer is in general.)

You might be able to have an upholstery shop or mechanic take the existing manual seat brackets out and install the 4-way electric motor seat bracket assembly - like Ray said, the wiring is probably there, though you'll have to add the fuse and may need to special-order other electrical bits. Mounting the control switches on the side of the seat (if that's where they go) could be a problem, but it's nothing that can't be solved with a bit of ingenuity.

A seat swap is getting really difficult with all the side impact airbags built into modern seats.

As to the front edge bolsters, any good upholsterer can pop off the covers and add more padding support wherever you need it.
