Ive been looking at new clutches for my '91 celica. Can anyone (Ray?) tell me if Aisin were the original manufacturers of the cars clutch? Aisin have two part numbers for my car - they switch over half way through my model year and have only one difference - spline diameter reduces by 1mm to 28.8 at '91. Now ive scouted around EVERY other clutch manufacturer I can find and they all say one part number fits all and theyre 29.8mm (the size of the original model).
So i have a spare box from the late model (should be 28.8 according to Aisin) and sure enough its 28.5 give or take a smudge and a bit of tolerance for assembly. So why does everyone quote 29.8, a hefty
0.65mm difference in tooth-overlap.
I'm concerned!
