Clutch splines

Can't you ever ask questions with easy answers???

AFAIK, Aisin is the sole supplier for Toyota gearboxes (Toyota).

Sounds just like the typical problem with after market parts to me. They can make a part for less if it's close enough to work on more cars.

Sorry! Force of habit! But thanks for the info, with them being supplier of gearboxes and also a clutch manufacturer that means they are probably correct in their part number assignment and all other aftermarket people are being cheapskates, even $2000 Exedy multiplates!! I think I'll email Aisin for complete confirmation before forwarding this info to the various manufacturers.

I fear you're correct, although you'd expect a $2000 twinplate performance clutch to be correctly spec'd!

As long as you do not require useful information in every answer, I'll keep giving them a shot!

I would 'guess' stuff like that would most likely be by design for it's intended use. Racing! The perfect fit for most any part like that would not be the same for stock and racing.

Cant understand how a racing clutch would be designed with an incorrect spline diameter (they're spec'd to 29.8mm for all gearboxes, but newer boxes use 28.8) . Using a larger diameter is less strong than the smaller diameter due to smaller tooth engagement area. Seems madness.

At times like this, when everything seems daft, it can be good to check the basic assumptions. Eg, are you sure about those sizes?

Im awaiting confirmation from Aisin, but im 100% sure that the two clutch part numbers have those sizes according to the specs i read. I'm 100% sure on the size of the 205 box input shaft (measured it with digital calipers to 0.01mm). I'm 100% sure all aftermarket items are 29.8mm.

Oh I did not mean to imply anything was one way or the other.
