Fixing stuck emergency brake

Hello,

My friend asked me to pose his problem here. He has an '88 Toyota Corolla hatchback, 4 cylinders. His car's back emergency brake is sticking on the driver's side and he tells me he needs advice on how to loosen it.

If he wants to try to fix this, what does he have to do?

Thanks

Take the wheel and drum brake off. Check for brake shoe problems. Operate emergency cable and see what's binding it. Compare to other side. Better yet, take to repair shop and get brakes done.

'88 Corolla hatchback, eh...

Um, there is no fix. Tell him if he pays me $150, I'll gladly take it off his hands!

Check to see if the cable is seized on that side; that's the most common source of parking brake problems.
