Matrix Problems

Hi; Has anyone had sludge problems with their Toyota Matrix? My daughter has a 2005 Matrix, and was just told (today) there is sludge in the oil and the transmission. Other than a one time slight shifting problem (automatic) last week there have been no other problems. My knowledge of cars is about 3+ on a 1-10 scale, so my questions will most likely make you laugh. So what is the most probable cause of sludge in the oil and transmission? If it was tiny bits of metal or disintegrated seals wouldn't she have know about it before now? Or does this sort of problem just creep up on you. The warrenty is up as the car has over 50,000 miles on it. Any advice or information would really be appreciated. Thanks, and waiting to hear.

When you say that there is sludge in the oil, do you mean engine oil? If so, sludge in the engine oil AND the transmission is pretty unheard of.

Sludge in both the engine and the transmission can result from neglect, abuse, or immersion in water, especially if the engine oil and transmission oil have a milky appearance. Where was the routine maintenance performed and how often?

The problem will creek up if the car is not regularly serviced.

Let's begin with the obvious... how often was the oil changed, if at all?

is it the dealer telling you this? do you REALLY trust the person telling you this? dealers are not above this either. the two systems are isolated and do NOT exchange oil.

smells like a scam to me. get a different outfit to check it out. and NOT AAMCO.

good luck, sammm
