OT. Crying about Gas $$$

Sorry, Ray, it's me....

My nyms are running away from me again.

Yeah, I live about 14 miles from Zoar, and it was the first commercial nuke on line in the early 60's. They just decommissioned it and disassembled it within the last 6 years.

They DID fine the containment vessel was brittle! But, it was so freakin' THICK it was in no danger of breaking.

I went there once (or, went by there) and there was a fence with a guard. You weren't getting in unless you had a reason.

And it was the first commercial nuke, but it was also experimental. It was an experimental reactor that got put on-line.

South end bridge, wasn't it? Aren't they going to have traffic backed up all summer?

Good luck getting to Six Flags!

They were comparing fuel costs around the world as I was typing that! UK was in at $6.75 Japan was in at $5.65 But: China was in at $2.00 Venezeula was in at $0.12

I guess if you are a supplier or the world's biggest buyer (China, as reported on the NBC Evening News last Thursday) then you have it a little easier.

What 'minority' would that be, Mike? The entire world? Is that why Escapes are flying off the lots?

"Zoar" sounds like a name out of a sci fi move so I thought that it was a fitting name for the first nuke plant.

I read an article about what the inspectors found after it was decomissioned, and it is nice to know that it lasted well into its design life.

I got the same impression when I started to drive up the access road to the one in Plymouth.

There is a Six Flags near Boston?????

You know, when Six Flags is in full swing that's when they'll decide to block traffic either going east or west. Maybe they'll wait until Eastern States Exposition starts. Like I said earlier they'll do it when it really hurts. BTW, Six Flags promised no more concerts two years ago. They plan to renege on this promise.

Agawam.

It actually went years longer than it was commissioned to. I remember they had nuke inspectors come in and approved it for 5 more years. After that, though, they tore it down.

Figures they put it in after I left. Did Legoland ever go in near Lakeville?

There is a Six Flags in the far northern suburbs of Chicago, traffic in the area gets pretty backed up on weekend mornings, especially with Bass Pro Shops (a better destination IMO) at the same interchange. Bass Pro Shops will become a moot point when Cabella's opens up in my town :-)

And then from July to September there are the crowds going past the 6 Flags to the Ren Faire in Bristol. . . .

Charles of Schaumburg.

It's the old Riverside Park. Six Flags bought it about 5-6 years ago and have been 'upgrading' it ever since.

Funny, though, with each 'upgrade' there's another death at the park...

forgot about the Ren Faire - I haven't been there since I was in college.

I saw a web site somewhere dedicated to tracking amusement ride injuries and deaths. It doesn't seem like injuries or deaths hurt attendance and may do just the opposite to those seeking more thrills.

There are a whole lot of nuts out there!

I just fire up my Supra or (once I get it running again...) my Hachiroku!

Most fun ride I ever had in my life!

I'd be willing to bet they did just fine without it.
