OT - From Sea to Shining Sea

Gun control and abortion are two issues about which there will never, EVER be any kind of happy consensus. This is why politicians love to use those issues as wedges when they have nothing else of value to offer.

Speaking of guns, maybe I've missed something, but have any of the candidates spewed anything about that lately, or have their handlers told them to shut their cakeholes on the subject?

Nope, can it makes me nervous. The NRA suspects, rightly so, that even the media are cooperating with this "silent treatment" due to their overwhelming desire to see confiscation. If they don't ask the questions, then gun owners will have to investigate the candidates themselves.

Imagine that. Actually having to look into a candidate's stance on something. What's up with that?

Remind me to NOT post until I've had my first cup of coffee.

...AND it makes me nervous.

When people see pictures like this, it's no wonder they freak out about guns:

The NRA promotes gun safety, but they repeatedly display a picture of a lunatic waving a rifle. I'm not sure if this is funny or not.

Why is that picture so inflammatory? During his brief tenure with the NRA, which really was symbolic, he merely spoke of gun rights. The muzzle loader in the picture was hardly dangerous in its unloaded state.

Sure the guy has Alzheimer's now, but I just don't understand your fixation here.

It doesn't matter what kind of gun it is. The most rabid anti-gun robots know nothing about guns. All they see is "gun", being waved by someone who looks (and was) insane. Furthermore, the lunatic Heston was breaking one of the most basic rules of gun handling, taught to every kid that sets foot in my gun club before they're even allowed to open their gun cases.

Yeah, that's the organization I want speaking on my behalf.

I'll not argue gun safety, as you are correct.

But...you might want to consider cutting the guy some slack. But for the grace of God....

Maybe a little slack, but not much. And, the NRA kept using the photo, over and over. Someone should've had a clue as to the message it sent.

I've seen police do worse. Trust me.

Protect and defend. Right.

There's a store here which sells cop leather and other cop accessories. Sign on door: "No loaded weapons except for police". The owner told me his wife insisted on the sign, but that she had the concept backwards. The cops are slobs in terms of safety.

And real gun control. Meaning the ability to hit a target. I think I've mention my deputy friend who's a rangemaster at the department facility.

Per him, cops are the worst shots, with few spending meaningful time at the range unless qualifications are near.

Crooks are worse shots. Experts like you only shoot at tomato cans and round targets with plenty of time to aim.

Gosh, that was so clever, dbu.

Let's take a look at the facts, shall we? I can accept the word of a real, live police officer, and his peers at the range.

OR...I can take yours.

Hmmm. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Perfect.

Find that in the Constitution, or Amendments, and I'll agree.

Until then, statements like this just make people look stupid.

Apparently you're just as clever as dbu.

You have to register cars & some boats. That's not in the constitution, either.

Nor is the RIGHT to drive either.

Well, that's true. As an aside, I've seen a few people in newsgroups claim they had a "god-given right to own a pickup truck".

God gave them the right to own a pickup truck. :-)
