ELECTRIC car???????????

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Are they not the ones who found it necessary to DESTROY ALL OF THE PROTOTYPES of the last electric car that they worked on?

WHO THE HELL DOES GM THINK THEY ARE KIDDING???

Unfortunately it needs improved batteries to make it to market and in 30 years of trying, no one has come up with improved batteries.

Sure. But *when*? Blogs and auto sites are all over this but when you dig in, the projection for delivery is 2010 to 2012. When's the next Prius?

2008? Maybe even later this year? Honda's probably not sitting on its hands, either.

There is one unique thing about this, no conventional drivetrain (at least that's my interpretation of things I read elsewhere). There's sure to be weight and cost savings in that. And the engine is a tiny 71hp turbo (diesel?), for additional economy and weight savings. Without a conventional drivetrain, the engine is free to run at ideal performance whenever it runs. With such a tiny engine, the cooling system can be smaller, additional weight savings. There's some synergistic efficiencies around that design decision.

However, it's disappointing that GM's still talking about things that are a few years out (3 to 5), rather than shipping really effective product today - or unveiling a wicked good 2008 model.

In my industry, we'd call GM a specialist in "vaporware."

Besides, its ugly. By the time the Volt is ready, we will be beaming to work ala star trek.

No Thank You. I'll drive.

And if Microsloth is still around and has anything to do with it, HELL NO, not even in a dire emergency. You're a few googolbytes of data in transit, and a machine on either end does a BSOD...

"Cleanup on Platform Three..."
