Radio harness 'adapter' on a '90 Corolla?

Ok, don't mock me... but I'd like to hook an iPod up to my '90 Corolla. There are plenty of iPod auto kits, but none for my ancient clunker.

I am more of an electrical/computer guy than a car guy, is there any way to hook it up, or will I need to purchase a radio with an audio in jack? (the stock radio in there has a busted casette player, so no luck on tape adapters).

After this, my next project: GPS.. hah.

No problem - for not much more than the cost of a harness you can have a whole new receiver / CD player with a front panel aux input.

you may want to consider an FM stereo modulator. I put one into my car recently and the hook-up is simple. you only need to make a ground & hot lead connection, plug in the antenna connection and install an RCA connector. set the radio frequency on the modulator and select the station on the radio. I have the tail from the RCA wire sticking out and simple plug-in my MP3 player. works great!

What he said!

I put that same radio in an older Jeep. It'll give you an aux in (XM, in my case) and sound better than the factory radio, to boot! The face plate is removable for security.

If you buy it from Crutchfield, they usually provide a wiring harness and EXCELLENT instructions.

Thanks a lot! I just ordered it. The aux input in nice, it will save me from having to deal with mounting a secondary RCA/input Monster cable.

Plus, since I work in the hood, the fact that its only $79 bucks is good. I will definitely be removing the faceplate.

I also ordered the Haynes repair manual, just in case.

Thanks for your help guys!

Nice Unit! $79 is a good price...

But I bought one on E-Bay for $28!!! Came with everything. Very nice, good sound.

Unfortunately, all the current eBay seller(s) want $60 + $25 shipping, so Crutchfield still has a most excellent price. Plus given their reputation you don't have to worry about problems, and the OP will have someone to call on for help if he needs it.

True. But, I will say, I have the Aiwa and two JVC MP3 Players, and another JVC head unit, all bought on E-Bay, and all perfectly functional. I did have to buy harnesses for the JVCs, but they were available Buy It Now for $8 w/shipping. BUT I am also an Electronics Tech, so any minor problems I can deal with. But I haven't had any yet!

Yeah, you have to be careful; set a max bid and don't go over, and DO THE RESEARCH, or you COULD end up paying more than just buying one retail!!!

But, the Aiwa IS a great unit! I love it! IT's in my old Celica, doing nothing right now. I was going to install it in the van, since I have XM and the Aiwa has an input, but I had an old better Sony hanging around that sounded really good with the Infinity option in the van.

Isn't it amazing how much technology you can buy nowadays for $80 (or in your case, $28)? Even though I too am in the electronics field (or near it, anyway) I still am amazed at how little this stuff costs.

I buy used electronics all the time on eBay - just picked up a gigabyte PCI NIC for $9 delivered - compare that to what they cost just a few years ago!

Man, I got into Computers about 11 years ago, and an NE2000 card, with a BNC, cost $99-129!!!

I can buy a used 3Com Gigabit for about $10!!!!
