Gee, Hachi, you're in about the same boat I'm in:

English, French, Scottish, Irish, German, Norwegian, Danish, and Southern as well as Northern. And what's worse is all the different strains of each. I have French from Vienne, and Brittany and Normandy, for instance. I have German from as far east as Breslau and as far west as Bern, Switzerland.

I literally should cheer for both sides in WW2 movies, and Civil War movies, too.

I have relatives from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina (or East Georgia), North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.

I'd like all of us to get to know each other a bit better. To that end, I'm letting you all know a little bit more about us. Hachi is half-Black (not sure what his other half is--perhaps he'll tell us). Sharx and WickedDoll are Black on both sides, and properly proud of it.

Like Dbu, the lovely right-wing Scotty in Florida is Christian on one side and Jewish on the other. Same for Cathy. Witfal strikes me as Jewish on both sides :-)

It's wonderful that we have such a diverse group here. Now if we could all just stay On-Topic, we'd learn even more about Toyotas.

Nope, no Judaism in my family tree. Protestant on one side & former-Catholic-but-flipped-over-to-Protestant-when-in-20's on the other side. Although the latter did grow up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, which was predominantly Jewish.

It's obvious to me your Jewish on one side--perhaps just one grandparent, which I guess would make you a Quarter Jew instead of half Jewish :-)

I'm Christian on both sides, and white on both sides, but I have enormous respect for Jews.

There is no Judaism in my roots. If there was, fine - I don't care one way or the other - but there isn't. Parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc., etc... no one was Jewish. Why you think so, I don't know. I had a Jewish bf long, long ago, but somehow, I don't think he counts in this regard. ;-)

What level of pigment is necessary in the skin to determine whether one is "black?" And if one had less than that level, wouldn't one then be "white" even if both of one's parents are "black?" Wouldn't so-called "whites" also be black if they passed the pigment test for blacks?

We thought that being "Jewish" meant following one of the major religious streams. Certainly there are many "Jews" who fall on either side of the pigment test. Being "Jewish" does not, therefore, tell us whether one is "White", or "Black."
