I was going by the nntp posting host, hananet, which does show up in the path here. Probably a relay through a zombie pc.

It's called a hipcrime spew. Google hipcrime. The premise is that the tool was written so that people who don't like what they read can pummel newsgroups until no one reads them anymore.

No, relayed by an uncaring nntp server. They've been notified. If you're seeing it, you should ask your news provider to run Cleanfeed.
