Rear Sway Bar Bushing

Have an Australian Conquest Sedan V6 '99. Had all shaocks and sway bar bushes done by "Pedders". What a mistake. I'm still getting sqeaks and rattles from the suspension. These "professionals" haven't fixed what I took it in for. Visit number 7 coming up. If they don't fix it then, I'm going to get RACQ involved to help. Where and what type of bushes did you have fitted, are they OK?

----------- Easy. Just unbolt the curved metal covers over the bushings and remove. (2 bolts each side) The bushings themselves are split so they can slide off the anti sway bar. A tip picked up from our local Toyota lead mechanic - apply silicone grease to the new busings to resist development of squeaks. Most accessible source for silicone paste is the "dielectric grease" sold in small tubes at places like AutoZone for under $5. You won't need much. If you feel adventurous, do the fronts also. They are more hidden, but the principle is the same. This is a great excuse to buy the Gearwrench ratcheting combination wrenches. Clearance for the bolts in front is limited, so you need patience, but is not difficult. If you're in there, also check the boots on the front sway bar links for cracking and replace if needed. Also fairly simple, but the parts are around $50 each side.

These bushes have been extensively discussed in a previous thread which you can search for here, that might be why our resident quality control manager is getting abusive again. They do cause a characteristic light knock or thump in the rear end of the car when worn, and are easy to replace as Daniel describes. If you have noticed nothing, I believe you could carry on as is for a while.
