Hi: I have an oppurtunity to buy an 85 Camry LE, and was wondering what the fair $ value would be.
A private owner is selling it, not a dealer; it comes "as is".
It is an automatic with sunroof, and electronic "everything". It has about 78,000 confirmed miles on it. Brand new tires;... , and new brakes, exhaust and struts all within the past year.
It was kept housed, and rust is now just beginning to show up in all the usual places, but it is minimal at this point. Interior is spotless. Exterior has a couple very minor dents where someone lightly sideswiped it.
I plan to run the vin number to get a history on it, but haven't done so yet.
He wants $2600 for it.
I have had 1 83 and 2 86's, all 5-speeds. I drove this, and it definitely doesn't have the acceleration of a 5-speed, but otherwise it seems to run very well. What is the reliability history of the auto transmissions? (I only know 5-speed.)
Can anyone give me a knowledgable fair value price on it?
If I choose to buy it, I don't want to try to "steal" it, but I also don't want to pay excessively more than its really worth.
History: originally bought by a "professional" and then sold to a grandfather after only a few thousand miles. , Granddaughter has used it since 97 or 98 at college, so its been kept in same family for about 16-18 years. Kept housed.
I plan to run the vin check on a website, but I've lost the address. They charge $15 per car, for a complete documented history..
Does anyone know what website I'm referring to? I'll find it again if I have too. I've got a newspaper article on it laying around here somewhere.
Thanks very much for any help or suggestions.
Ron
