I'd like to set up my new 2004 4Runner with Daytime Running Lights. Couldn't find one with this option installed. Is this a complicated procedure? What do I need to do? Thanks for the help, Mike

as well as a ton of other good info on the 4th gen 4Runners. From what I remember all you need is to order a different flasher relay and install it. The wiring and whatever else you need is already installed in the vehicle.
Just have to replace the flasher relay ($38-45) --- part number 81980-35020. The current lights won't be quite as bright as the DRL ones but the DRL bulbs take a different socket. Instruction can be found at:
I tried posting the same message months ago, only got one reply with "who want DRLs'. I too want to enable them on my 2004 4runner, but there does not seem to be an easy way.
I don't have DRL's per se on my 03 Tundra, but if I turn the lights on and leave them on. They behave just like DRL's. They will go off when you turn the motor off and open a door. The only drawback is when I have my boat hooked up, the trailer lights stay on.
But there's a small additional current draw on the battery when you leave the headlight switch on and let the ignition cut off the lights like that. Overnight, it's not a problem, but if you leave the car sit for a week or two you will have a dead battery.
It's a simple enough solution: Turn on the headlight switch, and you have DRL's. When you stop, turn off the headlight switch. ;-)
