2004 Black Toyota 4Runner Paint Peeling

I bought a new 2004 Toyota 4Runner and the paint is now peeling all over it. The car has 1057 miles on it. I want a refund or replacement. I have started arbitration.

Any comments, legal advice, suggestions, similar experiences, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Paint is absolutely and specifically covered by the basic Toyota warranty. Paint that is peeling after only 1057 miles is a manufacturing defect unless it was exposed to something unusual.

I had a similar experience with GM years ago and was successful in holding them responsible for their paint work by following through with the arbitration process. My advice is be patient, seek independent analysis by reputable paint experts, follow through with the arbitration process and above all, document everything. Good luck.

Toyotas usually suck when it comes to paint. I was actually at the dealership changing oil and another person with a highlander (04) was having similar issues.

Not really an exclusive Toyota problem. To reduce pollution at US factories, paint formulars have been rapidly changed and in some cases, with all manufacturers, mistakes have gone out the door.

Yes paint is absolutely mentioned in the warranty AS BEING EXCLUDED from coverage

That link is for the extended warranty. Is it not covered in the standard factory warranty?
