Another question:

All the other manufacturers are offering financing deals on their vehicles now - does Toyota have any plans to do the same? I have a friend who wants to buy a 4-Runner badly - purely for off-road use, and dang it - the Grand Cherokee is $7000 less all said and done after all the tax and license and payments because it has 0% financing as opposed to his 6.5% from his credit union. $33000 out the door for both - same payments for both, but the GC is a full YEAR less payments. $6600 and a year less money tied up in this crazy unstable economy of ours.

He still wants the 4-Runner(his money I guess) - but it gripes me that Toyota isn't offering ANY financing incentives.

Maybe when the new models come out? I know he can at least save a couple of thousand more off of a 2003 then - so I'm telling him to wait the 5-6 weeks(or get a 2004 then - a year less depreciation)

Also - He is all ga-ga over the V8. From a mechanical standpoint, is the V8 a better designed engine and more reliable(say lifted from some mucho money Lexus) or is the V6 a far better way to go?

Gas is moot to him as he gets it all written off as a business expense. He's kind of moveable on the engine choice if I can tell him some major problem with one or the other.

The grand cherokee is nice, but the chrysler transmissions problems follow it around. You might get a year less in payments on the GC, but you will get

5-10 years on life with a 4 runner. I guess with a good warranty, and if he doesn't plan on keeping it more than 7 years, he could still save cash with the GC.

The only new options on the 2004 model will be available mid to late next year......a 3rd row seat.

The new 4Runner is adding a rear camera linked to the Navigation system. When it is put in reverse, the rear camera turns on, allowing the driver to see what's behind him. The Lexus RJ and Accura already have this feature, but I'm buying a 4Runner.
