'92 4Runner tailgate pwr. window problem

1992 toyota 4runner "medallist" edition. My pwr window fights to go up and down. I understand this is a common problem. Can anybody provide me with any tips? I think I need to replace the "module", rails and maybe the trim rubber.?

you are right, this is quite common. on my '90, the rear window motor and such has been replaced a number of times. mostly because it was driven most of it's life in PA where they use tons of salt on the road. so when the window would go down, salt would get put in the middle of the tail gate and bad things would happen. i'm also going to need to do something on my '89 again too. you may want to start with just taking the tail gate apart, cleaning things in side real well, and putting silicone grease (spray kind) on all the moving parts. i've done that in the past and things have worked well.

light grease only. I used all-purpose grease at first and it ended up acting like glue. Well at least this is what happened in snowy and cold Northern-Ontario Canada. I switched to a lighter grease on all the internal gears and sliders for the rear window motor...much better. In addition, I pack the top of the tailgate with grease every fall. It keeps the salt and water away.

Hope this helps.
