Antifreeze Aroma

The last couple of times that I turned on the heater in my '85 SR5 Extra Cab pickup, I could smell the faint aroma of antifreeze. This leads me to believe that my heater core has sprung a leak. I only get the smell for the first couple of minutes of use and then it goes away 'til next time I turn on the heat. I've got the Toyota Truck & 4Runner repair manual but I can't find anything that tells me the process of R & R'ng the heater core. I don't have air-conditioning but I do have the bucket seats/floor console interior. Am I gonna have to take the dash apart? Any sites that can explain the exact process? TIA. Jerry

PS If you wish to e:mail me with a response please remove one of the zeroes in my return address. jj

According to my Haynes manual, it doesn't seem too difficult for a heater core. If you want I can try scanning it and sending it to you. Slik

I was under the impression you had to remove nearly the entire dash to get to it. I have shop manual for 84 but can't find it in ther (thought it would be cooling - or maybe electrical or AC).
