New 2004 Double Cab Tacoma

Nov 29, 2003 6 Replies

I purchased a new Tacoma less than a week ago, and I love it except for one thing. The loud beep I get when I remotely lock or unlock the doors is driving me crazy.

I did a search on this newsgroup but did not find a sure cure. One suggestion was to put tape or foam around the beeper unit to muffle the sound. Exactly where is this unit located?

Does anyone have any other suggestions to disable the beep?

How much did you paid for it out the door?

As for your beep, I would use foam too muff it out

The alarm system beep can be disabled. Take the truck to your dealer to have the alarm reprogrammed.

Tundra's is under the power brake booster. It's red, a little under the diameter of a quarter and about 3/4" long. Probably just hanging there with foam wrapped around the sides.

my RS alarm buzzer on my 02' tacoma went in right next to battery, facing out into the fender. it has red top. disconnect it...

I have a new DC Tacoma and was severely irritated by the BEEP BEEP also. It is NOT programmable as the one guy said and it isn't an alarm, just the keyless entry. The pizzo beeper is right between the battery and drivers fender. It's kind of hard to get to without moving the battery, but I cut about five 3" pieces of electrical tape and put it over the end in a criss cross way. Now I just hear a barely audible chirp. I know my neighbor is happy, since I leave at about 5:30 every morning. That d@mn thing was too loud.

I just use my key in the morning. The only time I use the remote to LOCK the doors is when I'm parking in a public lot and "suspicious characters" are in the area. I actually still lock the door from the inside panel (not to break the habit), but give it a "lock" from the remote as I'm walking away.

At first, I was annoyed by the volume and I covered it with tape. After the novelty of the remote wore off (2 weeks), I reverted to the above and removed the tape. I'm still saving significantly on wear on the key since I only key-in in the morning or any other time I want to be discreet.
