One more question from my 1984 Toyota Pickup 2WD carburated clutch job. I'm getting conflicting information about which direction the clutch disk should point, and I didn't check the old one before I took it out.
One manual says " The side of the disc that has the springs sticking out goes towards the transmission " but you can see the springs from both sides. There is one side that has the springs retainer plate and so the springs are thicker on that side but I'm not sure that's what the manual means.
Another manual says "on pickups, the short side of the splined section faces the flywheel" but the problem is that if you measure the splined section on how far it sticks out from the center of the disk, each side is about the same length. If you measure it from where it visibly sticks out, then the side of the disk with the springs retainer plate has less of the splined section showing. The problem is that if this is what you go by, then this manual's advice is the exact opposite of the other manual's advice.
So I'm really confused and hoping someone out there has a clearer way to explain this dilemma.
