Programming key blank for '05 Highlander Ltd.

I've got a 2005 Toyota Highlander Ltd (V-6 3.3l, 4 door if it matters). Bought the car used, and it came with one set of key/remote. I need a second set.

I ordered a remote from KeylessRemotesForLess.com ($40 vs. $142 at the dealer). But I still need a key. I can purchase a key for around $40 from the dealer, but they also want $68 to "program" the key. Can I just purchase the key and program it myself?

Doubtful you'd be able to program it yourself unless you have the right equipment and the knowledge on how to use it. Call around until you find a locksmith who can sell you one and program it for you. When I was still working on cars I'd usually charge about half what the dealers were charging.

I bought aftermarket keys for my '01 Highlander and they came with programming instructions. Didn't need a computer or anything, just a series of turning the ignition on and off and ..... I don't know if anything has changed for the '05's. Blank transponder keys are very common on Ebay and through locksmiths on the internet.
