66 bug transmission

i have a nice 66 bug. It has been converted from 6 volt to 12 volt and it has a later stock 1600 dual port engine. The transmission is acting up and I think I may well need to find another one.

What magic combination of parts from what years are necessary to replace the transmission?

Thanks

if you can get your hands on a 67 transmission you could just bolt it in and go. or you can get any tranny from 62 to 66 but your going to have to clearance it for the 12volt flywheel and change the starter bushing.

a 1968 will work too, but you must decide if you want the 4 bolt drums in the front too! :-) I had converted my 66 T1 over to 4 bolt drums to fit wheels I already had. later, dave

Hey! You've got a '67 you can get one out of!!

IMPORTANT: You'll have to determine IF the '66 tranny has been machined out for the 12V flywheel, or did they just use a 6V starter and the 6V flywheel. IT MATTERS!!

Read the 6V/12V conversion article on my web site.
