Then I landed this puppy:

Craftsman, of course. Nice big 3/4 inch socket, no swing arm thing (which is where I broke the previous three) and a thick chunk 'o steel. Put a
4 foot cheater pipe on the end of it and that nut didn't stand a chance, it peeled off like cutting butter.
Based on my weight and the length of the pipe, I was putting anywhere from
400 to 680 lbs of torque onto the nut. 250 lbs of torque seems like a lot, but when you have a go at it with a good long pipe it's actually not all that much.. when re-torqing the nuts after doing my work I was surprised how little effort it took to reach the spec.Join the Discussion
