Chopping Bug, making Vert????

Question

I have a friend that wants me to chop his hard top and make a it into a vert. He has a vert for parts, but the vert is a rust bucket. Although I have never done a chop, I have restored several beetles and ghias and somewhat feel comfortable doing this.

My question is, what do I charge for chopping it into a vert only. I will do the body work necessary for converting it, but not a paint job, only the chop job.

Also, any tips or problems associated with chopping? I know I will have to reinforce the body, but I plan on using the rusted out vert as a guide.

Don't.MOST such projects end up looking like hacks.I have one :)Here's the factory approved plans for added reinforcements when doing the conversion, a copy of my conversion permit: pics there are of teh car the way I salvaged it after the previous owner abandoned the project immediately after chopping the roof and realizing it'll never turn out looking like a showcar with his skills.Jan

we have a few really nice verts in town. Are there problems with having a vert?

It's like owning a t-bucket, you have to realize your entire cart is open and anything thats out rain, smog, wind and birds can go into the car.

shrug I personally like the look if your wanting to go all the way through
