The way I read it was that it is a 1958 model built in 1957. Sounds plausible to me. - Bob

Break it to him gently. He's really wound up in that neat ol' car. :o)

Maybe. I suspect he doesn't realize that when people think of a '57 they think Oval.

I'd agree... The wrong tail lights makes it confusing. They arrived in the summer of '61 for the 1962 model... Perhaps the whole rear fenders got replaced at some point?

Based on the fuel pump location, it's certainly a 36 HP, so pre 1961.

Also, the SPEEDO goes to 80, not 90 so '54 to '60 years.

Square rear window started in summer of '57 for the 1958 model so that's okay...

Semi-circular horn ring came in latter of '59 for the 1960 model year so it is BEFORE that based on the shot of the interior.

What year did they change rear fenders? Earlier ones have a different wheelwell radius and shape than, say, my '72.

57's also had the single large "grill" in the center of the dash... this one had the split grills on either side of the speedo that was new for 58 wasnt it? but when did it start? late 57? **************************************************************** dragenwagen 1966 Type I - Daily Driver

Why? It is a '57. Built in the latter part of '57 for the '58 model year.

I would say they're original just with the wrong lights. They've been positioned too low down to cover told old holes from the original lights!

Well, mine is a first-week '58 made in '57 and it's titled as a '58. Sure, that's not really important. We know what we have, but if his title says '58, he should get hip and 'fess-up.

Does it matter? The seller certainly isn't trying to lie about anything, and even states it is a '58 model!

"1958" cars were made between 1st August 1957 and 31st July 1958.

And what about those mechanical semaphore's in the doorpost? Euro specs say till aug 1959, but i don't know about US. They are missing on this car.

At least the chassis number backs up his contention that it's a '57 from late in the model year.

Well, duh. They all start the year before. The perp knows it's titled as a '58, and it is a '58 but wants to make a fool of himself by saying it's a

No, they don't. That convention didn't start until the '56 model year. Up to '55, the model year matched the calendar year. So for this car the production year is 1957 and it's a 1958 model.

Give it a rest already. It's not that big of a deal.
