Engine drain plug torque

Bentley's sez to torque the oil strainer nuts on single-carburetor engines to 5 ft.lbs., and on dual-carb and fuel-injected models to 9 ft.lb.

Dumb question: I have a 71 type 2 with new 1776 engine that has dual Kadrons. What's my torque?

Hi.Your engine is a type 1(uprite) in a transporter/bus (body type 2) so 5 ft.lbs would be the correct answer. But the crushed washer answer would be the real world.Just don't go gorilla on the nuts or they will strip out(bummer!!)Steve

The single carb torque is for the engine with the type 1 case. The dual carb and FI engine is built on a type 4 case.

Assuming that this is still the original style of case, then this was a type 1 engine and your torque would be 5 ft lbs.

Use a torque wrench:

Some folks prefer to use an in-lb wrench for a torque value as low as 5 ft-lb:

5 ft-lb = 60 in-lb
