Engines in storage

I'm amazed at engines that sit for years and then just start up and go. The 1600 in my Puma sat in the crate 7 years before I put it the car and fired it up. Today I found the paperwork on the engine in the bus. When I got the bus it had 80 miles on a turnkey engine. It had been in a barn ever since. I thought maybe they meant in the barn a couple of years. Turns out "ever since" meant since 9/09/93. That motor had sat for 10 years before I started driving it. It has loosened up and runs like a champ now (about 1000 miles). These motors had nothing done to prepare them for the long rest, so I'm amazed at the performance and forgive the few oil drips. Anyone else have stories of engines sitting for years before use and just going when asked.

Just more rambling...My wife and I just got back from a ride in the Puma. This is what it's all about. Just fun. I hooked up the heater boxes in case it gets cold but not much there even after 20 miles. I might have to get one of my thermostats out of plastic storage if I need more heat out of it. New motor ran about 190 degrees so I'm very happy so far. Happy motoring to you all. Dennis
