Hi guys,

I need to know the month when my 72 SB was made, I read at

that I can have that information on the "Production Plate" to be found at the front panel near the chassis plate. Now, could somebody give me more details on which one is the front panel and how to locate it? or the production plate?

thanks Ant

On our '71 SB, there is a sticker on the driver's side door jamb below the latch mechanism (on the body, not the door) that has the month and year of manufacture.

I've heard that you can find the same info on a plate on the top edge of the front apron near the trunk latch, but I don't find one on my '71. Might have had an apron replaced at some point in time.

that would be where the vin plate is attatched on 68 and earlier models....in 69 vw put the vin plate in the corner of the windshield and used the label you describe on the doorjamb....US models anyway, not sure of others... JT

lists the last VIN for each month ofproduction, so you should be able to find it there. In your case, with your SB, `front panel' is referring to the front apron. If your car has the plate it would be just beside the hood latch, painted the body color.

Take a look at this picture:

two holes just to the left of the latch is where the plate will be ifyou have one.

As you can see, my car doesn't have one ..... and I've looked at a number of SBs at shows (in the US) and have never seen one. I'm not sure but I think the sticker in the door jamb that Malcolm referred to was a US only thing, so maybe US Beetles didn't get the production plate or maybe only a few got them.
