full throttle - no power

Hi,

when I want to accelerate my '71 VW Karmann Ghia with full throttle the engine does not deliver maximum power. Is this a problem of too much gas in the carburator?

Check that with the accel pedal right down you are getting full travel at the carbie. ie the carbie isnt half closed. Timing ok?.Choke all the way open after 10 minutes or so? Usual things like plugs/points. Cheers John

Does the car eventually get up to full highway speed?

Besides the carb-related items, check that the distributor is *actually* advancing fully, using a strobe timing light.

Weak spark might also cause it.

If the car does get up to speed, but takes a long time or "hesitates", check manifold heat and also the carb acclerator jet discharge.
