Hey all. I have a 1973 std. beetle with the padded dashboard. The dashboard itself is cracked and has a piece broken off below the glove compartment, so I will probably buy a replacement for it. However, I am toying with the idea of taking out the speaker grill around the speedometer cluster, and replacing it with a handmade varnished oak or mapel piece of wood with cutouts for a tach and tempurature gauge. (there is no speaker behind it) I am also considering building a wooden center console that goes up at an angle to connect underneath the dashboard with a space for a radio in it, and a storage bin. I will fill the old radio hole with another piece of varnished wood, or a CD player or something...Any ideas? What do you guys think? ~Anthony

Yes, I have seen them for sale at aircooled.net, bugzone.net, JCwhitney, and a few other places.
Hey...I have a dashboard that i haven't seen in any other bug. Maybe you can try to find something like it. Its by innovations i believe...it fairly old ( in relationship to me, being 18, haha) I have the pamphlets if you want more info. Check pictures out at
