It's exactly telling you that the button shorts an electrical contact to either a red bulb or a white bulb with red covering over it. It is accomplishing it by providing a path for electrons to flow through to excite the filament in the bulb in question. Speedy Jim will correct me if I'm wrong on the wording but I'm pretty sure I have the basic concept correct. :-D

Yes, you're correct. I apologize; I wasn't following this thread. This is a "push-to-test" lamp. Pushing the button merely tests that the bulb is good.

Later years used a more complicated setup which didn't require the driver to do anything. When the key is first turned to ON, either the Oil warning or the Gen (Alt) warning was used to light the "B" lamp.

With the black dash, electrical tape blends in better. Amateurs. ;-)
