My newest bug 72 Super Beetle Pics

Do the running boards appear saveable? I see some surface rust underneath them.

Heater channels appear to be in pretty good condition. But I'll have to look at mine at see if they are as good.

Also on the metal behind the back seat "Extra Luggage Compartment" What's the best way to get it out? I am going to try a chisel and a hammer to the spot welds and drill holes in the spot welds if I have too. I'd rather not cut any of it. I am going to have that part welded in my Super Beetle.

Probably save the gas tank as well.

Anyone need any parts they can use off the car?

Thanks Steven

That area behind the back seat? Looking at mine, it looks like it has a bazillion spot welds all over the place. I need to take my rear cross member out so was curious how it all was mounted. From the looks of it, it has this lip all around the shelf.

I could actually use a small area just below the half moon vent - mine is a non super. Are you going to cut that one up? Are you anywhere near CT? (have sawsall, will travel :)

Hi Steven,

I think you can save running boards. Just clean em up and repaint. You can get new chrome and rubber to recover them. WW sells all of those pieces wolfsburgwest.com.

Save the gas tank. Have it cleaned and sealed, it will cost as much as replacement, however cheap replacements won't last as long and will rust out. Refurbished original will last another 20 years if it's done correctly. Heck you can even do it yourself, should be around $20-40, check out eastwood they carry complete kits for cleaning, removing rust and sealing.

As far as getting sheet metal out, there is a special drill bit that will do this very nicely. It cuts a whole in the overlaying sheet of metal thus leaving lower piece, the one that you mount replacement to virtualy untouched. So no mess with trying to fill in the wholes and having to straighten the lip. I haven't seen this thing sold in local stores but almost all mail order vw parts suppliers carry it. I can't remember at the top of my head which ones I've seen carring it but here is a link to snap on to give you an idea what I am taking about.

Thanks for the advice.

I am in Arkansas. I may cut up the car but not sure yet.

The Snap-On spot weld bits. Will they work with a Black and Decker drill.

THanks Steven

If the wipers work, I could use the motor/arm assembly (if it's 2 speed).

I'll try and test it. I guess just hook a battery to the battery cabels?

How do I remove the part?

Thanks Steven
