Towing a Super Bettle questions

I am going to borrow a Supper Beetle tow bar to tow a super I am picking up. I read somewhere that soemtimes you have to drill holes for the mounting plate and sometimes the wholes were already their. About what percent of the time were the holes their? This is a 72 Super. I don't want to get over their again and not be able to tow it. Also where are the wholes located. I looked at my 71 super and only saw two holes where it might attach but looking at google I read about

4 holes.

If the wholes are not their what drill bit would I need?

Thanks Steven

How can I tell what class towing my truck is? I bought a new 2" ball that screws on to the bumber.

Car Dolley must be Class 2 3,500 pounds and Flat Bed must be class 3

5,000 pounds. I'd rather do one of those but Uhaul has all these rules I must pass before I can rent one. Also I may be going on Sunday to get it and not sure Uhaul will be open then.

Thanks Steven

What is wrong with attaching a towing bar to the bumper? Is the bumper firmly attached to the Super and it's metal around the bumper firmly attached to the body? There are some bars that can bolt to the bumper using brackets. They have some bars that temporarily attach to the bumpers with clamps without causing you to drill holes and will also attach to the front suspension so that all the pulling stress is not on the bumper.

Unless you have a nice strong rig for towing, I personally like to keep things as light and as simple as possible when towing and stopping. ;-) I have towed a '64 Beetle with a '67 Beetle from Iowa to Chicago many years ago.

Uhaul said the Supewr Beetle was too heavy for the auto dolley. I would have to use a Auto Transport but my truck was too light for it.

Will a 70 Standard front bumper fit a 72 Super? The car I am getting has no bumber but I took one of my 70. If it will not work I can take off the one from my 71 Super. I have a friends towbar that he used to tow MGB's. I have towed my 71 Super with it a few times by the bumper.

Another concern is that the 72 has a little front end damage. I don't think it's to bad.

Still have to get the rear passager wheel off. I am taking my Tire Iron and a metal bar and penetrating oil. I sprayed some on last time but still could not get it off. What else do I need to take?

Unlocking brake drims. What's the best tool method? Last time I just screwed the bolts back in and used a piece of metal or wood to turn it around. took a while but worked.

Thanks Steven

Auto Dolley has to have class 2 towing which is 3,500 and my tuck manual shows 2,700. I think it could handle it.

Towing 140 miles.

Delta land so Flat Land. Will have to go over one decent size 2 lane bridge over the MS river from MS to AR.

I think that they misunderstood you and maybe thought you said 'Super Bee' instead of 'Super Beetle'. Just call them again and say that it is a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle.

My truck still only shows 2,700 pounds which is less than the requried

3500 Uhaul wants. And I want to go on a Sunday to go get it and not many Uhauls open Sundays.
