OEM VW Type 1 headers?

Anyone ever see these?

In case you can't see the link, what I am looking at is a normal looking header, but at the place where you would normally bolt up your aftermarket muffler or quiet packs, instead, you see some sort of cylindrical expansion chamber with the two pea-shooter exhausts attached so that they would exit out of the normal exhaust cutouts in the rear apron. Apparently, they are OEM parts for VW's in Mexico.

Wonder if this has any performance potential for a mildly uprated engine.

...or would there be too much restriction; even more so than the stock muffler design we all know.

I have been working on vw's since 1969 and I would say that if you enjoy a bit louder and aggresive exaust sound the header and freeflow exaust will give about 20% hp increase, this is the cheapest hp gain you can find plus you wil probably see an increase in fuel milage as well, keep on buggin

hey,I just looked at that link, forget that one get a glass pack type muffler that dumps to either side, sorry I should have checked the link first
