OT Forgotton old music

Got one of those bargain bin CDs over the weekend with some songs that I had not thought about in a long time. Anyone who grew up in the 60s and 70s remember some of these long forgotten songs on the CD.

1) The Streak (Ray Stevens) Brings back memories of Junior High when a streaker ran by the window of my math class in 1974. 2) Spiders & Snakes (Jim Stafford) John is that your bro. :o) 3) When You're Hot (Jerry Reed) Pretty funny song if you listen to the lyrics) 4) Dead Skunk (Loundon Wainwright III A station wagen kills a Skunk and it stinks) 5) Convoy (C.W. Mcall) Brings back memories of all the vans with the murals and a CB antenna on them in the mid 70s. 6) Troglodyte(Cave Man) (The Jimmy Castor Bunch) A song about how men got women way back in the cave man days. They pulled them by the hair. Bill Berckman 67 Beetle

We had a streaker go by the outside of all the screwele busses in '74. We had quite a few busses at DHS back then. The guy looked a little bit like the idiot in That 70's Show.

I'm a bit young for those except Convoy and The Streak. I think I must know every Ray Stevens song he ever did. I have a favorite line from one of his songs that I say all the damn time. "I used to be crazy, but I'm a whole lot better now!... Where's my horse?!" Good for getting people to threaten to Baker Act your ass.

The Elvis song? I have that. Jan and I bought a CD of Elvis hits but unfortunately it was missing some of the really good ones, like Don't (which fortunately I have the MP3 of) and Blue Suede Shoes. My favorite is Suspicious Minds. He also did a really good cover of the Frank Sinatra song "My Way". I listen to a lot of Miles Davis, Billie Holiday and Elvis. In between the Pantera, White Zombie and Black Sabbath, of course. :)

And I remember when Dad first broadcast Red Sovine's "Teddy Bear" on his radio station. Do you remember "Phantom 309"?

Darin Bobby - Honey Lyrics

See the tree how big it's grown But friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big I laughed at her and she got mad The first day that she planted it, it was just a twig Then the first snow came And she ran out to brush the snow away so it wouldn't die Came running in all excited slipped and almost hurt herself And I laughed 'til I cried She was always young at heart Kind of dumb and kind of smart And I loved her so And I surprised her with a puppy Kept me up all Christmas Eve two years ago And it would sure embarrass her when I came in from working late Cos' I would know That she'd been sitting there a crying Over some sad and silly late late show And Honey I miss you And I'm being good And I'd love to be with you If only I could She wrecked the car and she was sad And so afraid that I'd be mad But what the heck Though I pretended hard to be Yes you could say she saw through me And hugged my neck I came home unexpectedly And caught her crying needlessly In the middle of the day And It was in the early spring When flowers bloom and robins sing She went away And Honey I miss you And I'm being good And I'd love to be with you If only I could One day when I was not at home While she was there and all alone Angels came Now all I have are memories of Honey And I wake at nights and call her name Now my life's an empty stage Where Honey lived and Honey played And love grew up And a small cloud passes over head And cries down on the flowerbed That Honey loved And see the tree how big it's grown But friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big I laughed at her and she got mad The first day that she planted it it was just a twig

Between little crippled kids and Honey dying, you guys are just depressing.

I'll stick to Elvis' goofy lyrics about itchy fuzzy trees. :)

Now I'm starting to feel old. I was just helping Dad as a teenager around the station back then. I remember the day he pulled out Johnny Cash's "Teenage Queen", which I'd never heard before. We had some of the earliest 'automated' music at that station. Didn't work well, required someone to sit there to punch the buttons at certain times because the relays didn't fire at certain times of the day.

I'm too young to be seasoned. I'm only 47.

Too bad I didn't have newsgroups back in 1976!

well obviously you are only lightly salted...you must be at least 48 before you are seasoned...
