What's your secret ? I've tried all sorts of things to get rid of neighbors but it never works for me.

Tuning megaphones at about 1:00 am usually motivates then neighbors to move - or to come over and help!

Been there, done that, just pissed them off. I even tried a naked rain dance in the yard. That just got me laughter and humiliation.
I don't know, I just try to be helpful and smile a lot. I put out large political signs, carry around "get out of hell free" cards, and have a real medical skeleton on a roller that looks out the front window at times and a canadian lynx and coyote in the back yard, plus a yard full of old vehicles that look tired but are all licensed and insured and a fenced front yard with cameras and motion lights.... Just the normal stuff.

Oh heck! Let's saturate the area in old Bugs! I'm in! Imagine, Den, you and me neighbors! That should drive the real-estate right into the toilet! I don't mean that in a Bad Way! :)
Having fifty Harley dudes show up to party all night, sixties acid rock, target practice with full auto weapons... works for me.
Unintended side-effect #1, Big guy dancing naked draws 'burnanites like a magnet.
Write that down, everyone! Jeeeze, Den! That's one for the Anarchist's Cookbook!
They wouldn't even notice the weapon. Dennis is a 100% genuine Vietnam veteran. All it takes is his shifty crazy look and people run for their lives.
Back around 1988, I was a manager at a Bookstop here in Dallas. We were up to 8 employees with bugs at one point. The building next to us was vacant so we ended up parking in a row there. It was kind of cool. I guess I should have taken a picture...
Yeah but I looked damned good while doing it !
Maybe.. I couldn't tell because, since then, my left eye refuses to open and the right lost all its focus.. :)
Staring at the wrong places will do that to you. Should have focused on my hat. Or boots.
ROTFLMAO! You're allright - thanks for the laugh!
Thanks again you lot !
to many to reply to individually so here is a summary.
I would like enough land to be mostly self sufficient in wood to keep warm and build with, and crops to keep fed. A lake would be nice to catch fish.
Would like to be at least a good 15 minutes walk away from any neighbours. close enough for emergencies etc.
Within about an hour drive or boat for supplies/post etc.
House doesn't have to be big or special.
Out buildings and barns would be more important to me ;-) Or just the space and permission to build them.
Over here I buy things cheap - do them up - sell them. I did it with property, now boats, cars are just a hobby that pays too !. So I don't really work as such, (I make more money since I stopped working ! )and would expect to do something similar over there. Don't know how immigration would look at my employment situation. Maybe I would need to show a good bank balance or something?
Its a long time dream that will be a long time coming. perhaps retirement, perhaps never. Wifey isn't keen, and I wouldn't move before the kids are all grown up and left home - at least 10 yrs ahead. Saying that, I also think of it as a 'backup plan'. I get trouble from the ex wife threatening to move away with the kids etc - mostly just talk, although she is taking the 2 youngest about 2 hrs drive away. My oldest is old enough to choose that she wants to stay with me, but the strange thing about family law here is that even though the youngest want to stay - the mother is considered more important ! Life sucks sometimes !
New wifey is brill though, so that's a bonus :-)
So - Thanks again for all the food for thought. I plan to make a few trips over in the coming years, maybe drop in and say hi to a few of you. Now I have a few starting places to look into.
Rich
Let me know when you want to say hi to CT. Remco
Minnesota, South of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, St. Paul). No doubt about it.
Rule 1: One has to know how to spell Connecticut. Rule 2: one needs at least three million dollars in Connecticut for what he wants, and Rule 3: even if you can afford to buy it in New England, they will screw you out of it in taxes in ten years.
