OT : Where in america to live ?

Nov 01, 2005 80 Replies

See there is another thing I gotta learn about - how your tax system works.

I like - take nothing , pay nothing !

Over here the latest talks are for taxing your view !!!

Our council tax (city tax ? ) is going to be re-valued. suggestions are that if you have a good view or near water, or have a roof terrace etc etc you will be taxed on it. Outrageous !!!!!

Ok I'll calm down now - its time to call it a night. See you all tomorrow.

Good point - As of 4/12/04, the CT state troopers stop out-of-state bozos at random to check for correct pronounciation as well. Rich, should that happen to you, it is "connetti-cut." or just rent a car with CT tags. Just in case, I'll get word out you're coming - you'll be fine :)

I'll let you have my place for two million five. I'll leave the lights, blinds, fridge and stove - quite the steal. I'd jump on it :)

you out of it > in taxes in ten years.

We only screw those who don't know how to pronounce "Connecticut" :p

Check out Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. It has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. The fishing and hunting are great and if you get out of town a ways, you find a place as remote as anywhere in the USA. On the down side, the winters are cold as hell.

Idaho is also one of the cheaper places to live. It's not far from Spokane, Washington and a major freeway to directly to Seattle about 300 miles west.

Good grief! Why has no one yet nominated Hoboken, New Joisey??

Wow -- looking on google earth, it looks like suburbs and all of the sudden /woods/. That does look nice..

Forgive my total ignorance on your area, but what are those woods/ridges/mountaints around where you live? Is it like Washington state (been there, liked it a lot)?

Remco

You bastard! The secret is out. Damn! But... dunno if a Brit could stand the weather. There is hope yet.

Or Newark! Stats say that one living in Newark will be robbed if he lives there for 20 years or longer. No?

Ah, it's Grizzly Bear and Cougar territory! Yeah, that's what it is! Be afraid! Don't go there unless you are armored and heavily armed. Yeah... that's it. Stay away! :)

"Remco" :

Funny how ya gotta be a native to know how to mispronounce it. Now, without looking, spell "Weathersfield" or is it "Wethersfield"? Huh?

Wethersfield, I think. Worchester, MA is another one that makes no sense - pronounced "Wooster". I didn't make up the rules - I just live here.

Coeur D'Alene looks like a nice place too. Always like Washington state and this place looks close to it. (Do wonder how that is pronounced by naive non-French speakers, n'est pas :)

I don't live there but it's on my list of favorite places to move too. It's pretty much like Washington and way more woodsy than the rest of Idaho.

Tony

You must watch too much TV. Bears and cougars aren't much of a problem in places where people shoot them. California were they're protected, they're a problem. Grizzlys are off the protected list and black bears and cougars were never on the list.

An Idaho winter will chase most people away. I went to college one year in Idaho and the first 40 degree below 0 morning was quite a surprise. It almost never gets below 10 above here in the Portland, OR area.

Tony

Okay, then the place is full of Vampires. Hey, whatever it takes to scare away the nubees. I hope you understand now that I was kidding.

Makes me think of the Right to Arm Bears and declare Californians as in-season!

I get it now. I'm on the tail end of being sick and my sense of humor isn't up to par.

That reminds me of the Rashnishee hunting licenses, "bag a bagwan and save an antelope." ;o)

Portland used to be a nice place before Kalifornia dumped so many flakes, nuts and fruits here...

Ach. I live in MinneSnowta. It's so cold we set ourselves on fire so we can walk to work. No harm. It's so cold we hang out on electric fences. Never mind shoveling snow - we have to make a hole in the air to get outside. When the cold starts, we put on long underwear and don't take it off until Spring. We wash in Vodka cause it doesn't freeze. If you ever wondered why we have so much pine wood furniture, then ya don't know what firewood really is.

........Have you never heard of New Hampshire?

'Live Free or Die'

That's nothing. Here in nebraska, we light farts for heat & entertainment.

Yesterday it was in the low 70's here with southern wind and slight rains. By late afternoon we had hard winds and tornado's north of us. Yep, tee shirts and tornados in November in Iowa. Anyone watching catagory 7 tonight?

I was coming up I-29 with a big empty trailer during those high winds. They were coming from all directions and it was a bitch to stay on the road. White knuckle driving at it's worst. My arms are still sore and tired. Took me 4.5 hours to make a 3 hour trip. Saw a couple of trailers that were off the road. Including one that had the biggest houseboat I've ever seen on it. Trailer was in the ditch and boat was kind of crossed on the trailer.
