pan prep

I would like to eventually clean up my pan which is fine, but does need some rust prevention. Essentially POR-15 the underside, since I assume powdercoating would be way too expensive. Is there a feasible alternative to media-blasting and is it possible (as in has anybody done it) to prep the pan & POR without removing the body. Just going through this to get some thoughts/ideas as to possible alternatives. TIA - DB

Thanks. Totally forgot about metal ready from all the posts on POR15. Certainly sounds easier than having the pan blasted. - DB

You could use POR's Marine Clean and the other product that etches before applying the POR-15.

That's what I used on our '71's floorboards (on the inside, mainly). Wirebrush loose rust, hit it with Metal Ready, rinsed, dried and started slathering on the POR-15. Used fiberglass mat to cover holes. Couple of coats of POR-15 over the mat and my battery tray area is solid and hard as a rock.
