Howdy all,
I bought my first air cooled VW three months ago. It's a '72 Beetle and I've been having a problem with the pushrod which works the intake valve on #4 cylinder popping out of its rocker arm.
Yesterday it did it when the engine dieseled after I shut it off. I know that the idle cut off valve is bad on my carb so when I shut it off I normally let my foot off the clutch with it in gear to stop the motor. Well yesterday when I got to work I forgot to do that and the engine dieseled on me. At lunch time when I started the engine I noticed the engine was missing and knew exactly what the problem was because it had popped out on me a few weeks ago - although at the time I didn't know what caused it to pop out .
This time I was able to fix it after work, and it runs fine once I put it back in place and adjust the clearance back to spec. Any ideas on why this is happening, and especially why it only happens on the #4 intake valve?
Thanks,
Tex
