Quick question

Under the distributator drive two washers are installed. The question is; Is it ok to only have only one?

Depends on the engagement of the dog-gear. Some T1's need a spacer plus the washers; some use three, others need two. T4, just one is standard.

During one of your pre-assemblies you should have checked the engagement of the distributor's driver-gear to the scroll gear. At the same time the engagement of the distributor's dog-gear is checked (without the spring). You should have about .020 of end-float.

Prussian blue (or lipstick!) will show you the contact pattern. You want it nicely centered or the softer bronze scroll-gear will wear at an accelerated rate.

The ENGINE will tell you how many shims/spacers it needs.

Thank you Bob. During the first 2 oil changes I found a lot of bronze particles and didn't know why. Last change I took out a washer broken in two pieces and a semi-circle worn spot on both sides about the diameter of the curve of the top of my little finger. This goes to the dist. drive so I know that I screwed up but I am going to see how long it will last at this point. Dennis
