1) a dry pump is very weak. Let fuel run out of the tank at it's own weight after disconnecting the fuel line from the pump, and when you get steady fuel flow out of the line, then connect it to the pump. Remove gas cap to make it flow better. HUGE difference sometimes. 2) not all pumps work the same way, some have their outlet and inlet oriented the opposite way from what you may be used to. Check that the lines are connected correctly.

and if you spill gasoline all over th eengine and exhaust pipe during this, let it dry for a good while before trtying to start the engine. The sparks from the generator or distributor may ignite the fumes. Keep the working area WELL ventilated. This is no joke, my friend lost hius garage and burnt his hands and face in a fire that started from gasoline fumes inside his garage.
