Should I paint it?

Hi all, I've just bought a 71> backplate for my 68 bus. Taken off the adjuster bracket to weld on the 68 bracket.

I was wondering should I paint the backplate. It came in bare metal and because it gets very hot when braking and all the original ones seem not painted is it worth painting or just rust proofing. I'm not after a concourse model just an ever day driver.

Your advice would be appreciated.

I have painted most of the backing plates of most of the cars I've restored with very very good resalts. I use good quality gloss black paint, I've been driving the same 64 beetle for 7 years and the backing plates still look good and rust free.

They were powder coated from the factory. You might want to see if they is a local commercial poder coating business around you, they shouldn't cost much to do, could be done same day and you won't worry about doing it again.
