T1 Cooling Tin Questions

Hello All: Going through a few catalogs and I noticed that I don't have the following cooling tin parts on my stock 1600 DP (carb). I'm a little confused, as various outlets list a "complete stock cooling tin kit" which don't seem to include these parts.

Looking at the first 2, I don't understand exactly where they fit. Also, I've seen a Scat lower cyl. cooling tin kit that surrounds the lower sections of the cylinders to guide the airflow around them. I just finished a brand new longblock installation and don't want to fry the heads, etc. by missing a few parts. Any experience or suggestions appreciated. TIA Bill.

The first set go behind the cylinders (rear of engine, rear of car) where the exhaust is connect to the heads. They are held with screws that attach to the engine tin.

The second are clipped to the bottom of the cylinders, they actually snap onto the threaded rods that hold the heads.

The 1st two pieces go at the rear of the engine [front is front] at the junction of the rear apron tin and the upper cylinder tin. #26 in lower section here is one of them:

The 2nd pieces you list are MUST-HAVE for any type 1 engine. They snap on to the lower two middle head studs. They come in 8mm and 10mm flavors, depending on your studs, and are #9 in the above link. They must be installed BEFORE the pushrod tubes to be correct. Some people mangle them in later but that bends them.

Karl: Thanks for posting those diagrams - really helpful. I ordered all of the "missing" tin last night. This afternoon, I decided to look under there - sure enough, there were those "must have" flat ones tucked way up next to the cyls. Logical, since I replaced my motor with a complete new longblock and, as you stated, they go on before the pushrod tubes go in. Anyway, at 2.00 ea. it's a cheap lesson & I'll put those other rear ones on when they arrive. Thanks again, Bill.
