Tricks installing fan housing

Jan 12, 2004 2 Replies

Hello, Is there any trick to installing the fan housing with the alternator and fan installed. I tried to get the shroud over the doghouse and slip the thermostat rod down at the same time. Does the carb have to come off to lower it directly down. Help me out here please. Eric 62 Ghia 1600 DP

Where is it hanging up? The hardest part of reinstalling the fan housing I have ever had was in getting the thermostat rod to thread correctly into/through the hole/gap in the cyl head, and the end tabs of the fam housing correctly positioned on either side, which fit inside and mesh with the cyl head sheet metal.. Of course, I think I have always removed the carb, and possibly the intake manifold too. It makes fan housing installation much easier and less cluttered, although I believe it can be done with the carb/intake manifold still on the engine.

Hello John,

I have gone though this and can give you these tips (1600DP):

  1. Remove RH side manifold (as you sit looking at the engine).
  2. Slide out manifold and Carb
  3. Remove Engine Compartment lid. (this makes it much easier especially if doing the job by yourself)
  4. You should be on your way with the obvious from this point.

I don't run the thermostat here in Malaysia, so can't help you there.
