Hello all, Firstly, I want to thank everyone who participates here. I've learned a great deal and unlearned as well. After searching past posts about CDI units I decided to contact Universal Corp. I received a prompt return message telling me they had sold out of the "older silver units" earlier in the year. Does anyone know of another CDI unit that compares to the "silver unit" that is comparable in quality and price (what was quoted to me was quite more in price). I'm not a hot rodder. Just working on making improvements to my "71" Super where and as I can. John Alden

I have one made by Cane Cams, (HI-6 I think is the model ) I don't think those are made anymore though. But maybe Crane makes an updated version, I haven't looked. MIne has an adjustable rev limiter built in. (Dial adjust).
MSD makes different CDI boxes too, 6AL I think is one. It also has a rev limiter in it, but it uses little 'chips' that you plug in, one at a time. Each gives you a different rpm limit. Cumbersome and easy to lose the chips you are not using. (I bet it's just a resistor, and you could fabricate a dial knob to replace one with).
Mallory makes a couple of different CDI models.

. I know Mr. Connolly dropped them due to a price hike as popularity grew..
Take a look at his site, he only retails quality parts.
From what I have come across on the net Mallory seems to be the better choice quality wise.
There once was kits to build out there, but I know of no-one still produced.
