What's it worth then?

Hi Guys,

Owned plenty of aircooled VW's in my teens and early 20's, went through the GTi, BMW, Porsche phase, eventually went back to my roots and got a bike (TL

1000 Suzuki) which I've had for the past 5 years. Brilliant.

However, things have changed. Child No 2 means I need a car once more. Missus runs an efficient but dull Seat Leon, main family car. Got a couple of grand kicking about to buy a second car this weekend. I guess the Missus is expecting me to come back with sensible Fiesta/Polo/Corsa..................Wrong.

Come across the following:

1969 VW Beetle 1500 One owner from new Genuine 57,000 miles Full maintentaince record (serviced at home) 12 months Tax/MOT £1695 (UK)

Now I've seen this car, and the first thing to say is it's not immaculate. Very tidy, but not a show car. Been owned by 92 year old bloke who is giving up driving. Few dents on wing edges, few stone chips in usual places. But it's completely 100% original, never been painted, welded or modified. Runs like a dream, interior is dusty but unmarked. Looking through maintenance record, the only thing it's ever had done other than usual consumables, brakes, exhausts etc is a front wheel bearing about 15 years ago.

Now I reckon it's got to be worth that sort of money all day long. Missus will be horrified. Do I care?

What do ya reckon guys?

Adrian

For that price, I say go for it!

My '66 had a similar story, 36,000 miles, one owner, full history... I had it painted and gave it a very good clean and it is still perfect

9 years later. They are the best cars you could choose.

The bloke is 92, does his own maintenance, and has full records going back 15-30 years? Sounds like a steal to me. If he's been driving that thing that long he must know what he's doing with it, and that is invaluable in a "previous owner." I bet people here in the states would fall over themselves to pay that.

Enjoy, Harry

THis does indeed sound like a steal - I'd be tearing his hand off. BTW - That must be you, Orb? :-)
