Alloy Wheels on 84 760 - Cleaning

Try a fosphate sollution in water. Worked fine with me. This mixture is also used after welding.

Phosphate cleaner. Hmmm. wonder what brand name would contain that, now that I re-read your post, I will try a welding supply house for some.

I had the opportunity to service some AKAI R/R's in my A/V days, real fine equipment. Several friends of mine still have their models from the early 1970'S, and they still work great.

I think you can buy Tri Sodium Phosphate aka TSP at paint stores You should not have to use too much. That is a bag of the stuff should last years.

Oh, THAT's what it is, I know TSP, you also use it on walls, a cleaner for prepping before wallpaper.

Now it makes sense, and it's easy to find as well.

I brought the "baby" to a car wash last week, and asked the detail guy there what he could do with the stained/blackened wheels.....

He replied "They are toast, gone, no way".

I will try some of the TSP on them, and just see if there's any hope.

Would hate to go to a steel wheel, since the light alloy wheels must have something to do with the fact that this car is fast, and the last thing I want to do is add more weigh to it....
