oil light

Howdy y'all.

Just recently my car started doing something very strange. The oil light comes on when the car is off, but when I turn it on the light goes off. I've checked the dipstick, and I have enough oil in there. What could possibly be going on. Thanks!

Peace

What's the car?

The oil light indicates oil pressure, not the quantity of oil in the sump. There is no oil pressure when the engine is off so the light would be on, except that turning the key off should shut off power to the system.

Sorry. It's a 1990 Volvo 240.

Specifically when does the oil light come on. Does it come on after the key is removed from the switch?
