Steering problem

My '95 850 2.0T5 keeps steering to the right after several checkups. When i let go of the steering wheel it's immediately gone where other cars i've driven on the same road keep goin straight ahead for a while. I know it'll always go a bit to the right of the road but this is a bit too much if u ask me and nobody can find a problem. Other thing is the steering wheel starts shaking when driving around 130-150kmph which i think comes from the rims. Even when the wheels are ballanced they do it again after a while. I'm thinkin of buying new ones in a while though. Can those 2 problems have some connection or not?

This might be trivial, but does it do it on all roads you drive or just a certain road? Also I might be tempted to switch wheels and tires from one side of the car to the other... both front and rear. See then if it pulls to the left.....

check for uneven wear on the tyres, this can easily be eliminated by swapping the left wheel with the right one and if its a wheel or tyre fault the pulling will switch from one side to the other........use this method for testing only as you will undoubtably have directional tyres fitted which cannot be permanently switched to the other side....... the vibration at this speed also sounds like uneven wheel balancing, these alloy rims are harder to get right than the older steel rims so make sure its done correctly.......

Don't forget that the 850s are Front Wheel drive cars and need the rear wheels to be tracked as well. Generally high speed wheel wobble is caused by imbalance of the rear wheels. I would also look to the state of the suspension bushings, wheel bearings and engine/gearbox mounts as well as the subframe mountings.

Cheers, Peter.

"Bad" radial belt will cause pulling described. Crossing wheels described above is a good test. This could cause vibration. Also, alloy wheels can warp or get bent which will produce high speed vibration, even when tires appear balanced. Examine tire/wheel carefully on balancing machine for eccentricity. Remounting tires can help but may need to replace wheel(s).
