Ever since I've had this car, it's leaked oil near the oil filter. I've always used NAPA gold filters. After reading on here, I've ordered a MANN filter to see if that solves the problem. Can anyone suggest another cause, other than a poor seal at the filter gasket?
Do you have to put the filter on really tight? I've always used "1/4 to 1/2 turn after contact". Any other suggestions?

Clean higher up than where you think the leak is. Maybe apply some tape. See if there could be oil coming from somewhere higher.

I always put it on as tight as I can with my hands. Do you lube the seal with some oil?

Not valve cover gaskets--I've already had to replace those at about 40K miles, which really chapped me, btw.
Not camshaft seals--yet!

Doesn't the V6 have an oil cooler right near the oil filter which has a gasket? With the 4 cylinders these oil cooler gaskets crack and leak oil sometimes.
